A Latina artist from St. Louis, I am concerned with finding new ways to utilize figurative observation to engage social advocacy, butting against the perceptions of time and art history in regard to the plights of women. With an approach to familiar narratives through the stance of rearranging and altering to take the audiences’ ‘familiar’ and typical encounters I change the story to better suit a feminist or minority inclusive agenda. Viewers must confront the different or unique aspects of the re-contextualized stories to find the intention from strategic breadcrumbs left for them to interpret, guiding to new realizations. I have exhibited at the Contemporary Art Museum St. Louis, Springfield Museum of Art, Danforth Museum of Art, and the Figge Art Museum. My work has shown in many venues both in the United States and Ireland, and I am a two-time St. Louis Regional Arts Commission Awardee, two-time Virginia Center for the Creative Arts Fellow as well as a recipient of the Elizabeth Greenshields Award for outstanding work in figurative art.
