I have always been captivated by the creation process. For me it is a place of refuge and self-expression. To me there is nothing like putting your thoughts and emotions into physical form. Being a multimedia artist my material of choice is clay because it allows me to-do this with its endless alternatives and versatility.
The heart of my work has always been centered on the human condition. For me the creation process is my therapy. My intent is through self -discovery with my own hardships and triumphs. I try to convey frustration, amusement, disgust, happiness and pain. I also feel the need to convey what is going on presently in our society/culture. Although my art may be personal to me the subject matter symbolism and form allow the viewer to participate with the work and take away their own meaning behind it. I would say my sculptural and functional work is very contemporary. It is drawn by my love for California Funk art. I’ve always played into the humor and originality of what I’m working on which has carried over into my functional work. My pieces tend to have a whimsical playfulness to their form and function. In the end I create because it is a part of me that makes me who I am without a creative outlet I wouldn’t be me.
